2020-21 School Year Information

Dear Parents and Students,

I am writing to welcome you back to school and explain the Jonesville Schools District’s Plan for the 2020-2021 school year.  We have developed a virtual learning option and an in person learning option for students this year.

The virtual option will utilize the Edmentum/Courseware Platform for students in grades 6-12 and the Edmentum/Calvert Learning Platform for students in grades Pre K-5.  Students will be assisted by parents with support from Jonesville teachers and assistants as they complete their work. We did our earlier survey to get basic numbers of students for planning purposes, but now we need to know your final choice. In order to make sure we have every student registered correctly, we need any parent who wishes to enroll their students in virtual school  to CLICK HERE and fill out the virtual enrollment form for EACH child.  You can also find the form on our Website or our Facebook page. The deadline for completing the registration is August 14th. If the form is not completed, we will assume that you are choosing in person learning.  The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) has determined that students choosing virtual education during the pandemic are still eligible for sports.  Passing grades in all courses is required, as all eligibility rules will remain in place.  The virtual choice will require self motivation of students and hard work on the part of parents.

For students choosing the in-person option, we are excited to see you again and have worked hard to create an atmosphere that is safe and conducive to learning.  You will be getting much greater detail from your building principals and teachers, but this is an overview of how school will work in these extraordinary times:

Each day parents and students are asked to do a home health evaluation of the student.  Does the student have a fever of 100.4 or higher?  Do they have a sore throat? Are they coughing or short of breath? Do they have a severe headache or stomach pain?  You must not send them to school if they are not feeling well as this year that is more dangerous.  We are counting on you to do your best to keep our schools running and all of our students and staff healthy.

The school day has been shortened to 6 hours and 10 minutes each day.  The shortened day allows us to get all of the instructional time in and reduce the amount of time in masks.

The schedule for each building is as follows:

BuildingBuilding Opens for StudentsDaily Schedule
Williams Elementary8:258:35-2:45
Jonesville Middle School8:158:25-2:35
Jonesville High School8:308:30-2:40
Pathways Alternative School8:158:25-2:35

Class sizes have been reduced by having more teachers teaching at the same time.

Elementary students will stay with their classroom teacher all day.

Middle school students will stay in a cohort group for their core classes and the teachers will move to each classroom.  They will have one elective, and band is still available.

Students K-12 will eat breakfast and lunch in their classrooms to limit contact with large groups.

We recommend that you transport your children to school this year if possible to limit close contact with other students.  If you do drive your child to school, the buildings will open ten minutes before school begins to limit large groups.  Please do not bring them early.

We will be assigning seats on buses and keeping students as far apart as possible.  Masks must be worn by all people on the bus at all times. Each parent who would like to have their child ride the bus this year must CLICK HERE to fill out the bus transportation request form for EACH child.  This form can also be found on our Website and Facebook page.  We will not plan on transporting your child if the form is not completed.  The deadline to complete the transportation form is August 14th.

We must stress that you pick your students up promptly after school this year as we are working hard to avoid having children in large groups.  Designated pick up and drop off areas will be assigned for each grade level.  That information will come from the building principals.

This is certainly going to be a different experience, but we will do our best to make it enjoyable and effective.  If we all work together, we will have the privilege of seeing each other in person to learn as we get through this difficult time.

Thank you,

Chellie Broesamle, Superintendent
