Last night, the City of Jonesville awarded citizen of the year to three former Jonesville School alum: Dr. Leising, former teacher and current volunteer at WES, and Hayden James and Carson Laney who are 2020 graduates. Their stories of gratitude and service was a model of what the award is about. Though I did not have the pleasure of knowing the two graduates, it was clear the reason they were awarded youth citizens of the year. Congratulations and Go Comets!

We have been overwhelmed with shed requests!! The JCS community is awesome!! Thanks to so many of you who have expressed interest in supporting our Trades classes. At this time we have more than 20 requests for sheds!! I wish we had the time to build them all. Hopefully, you will have more opportunities to support our program. Our students are excited to build stuff. Next year we hope to have more students who want to do that. But at this time we are at our limit (and then some). The pricing comes down to materials and discussions with the client on what they feels is a fair price. Thanks! Go Comets!
The Construction class at JHS is excited to begin building sheds after spring break. We have two confirmed clients and are looking for at least one more. If you are interested in having a small structure built (garden shed, hunting blind, playhouse, etc.), please contact Jeff Dice via text or phone at 989-246-4298.
Each year, the top fifteen seniors in the entire Big 8 conference are recognized as the Big 8 Academic All-Conference team. Students are selected by a formula combining simplified grade point average and college entrance test scores.
It is with sincere congratulations and appreciation that Jonesville Community Schools is able to recognize Damion Scharer, Bella Maddox and Brady Wright as three of these top academic students. Jonesville Community Schools would like to offer Damion Scharer a second congratulations as he is the 2023 Big 8 Academic All-Conference team captain (the top academic student in the conference).
The Jonesville High School staff was honored to wear their "Raise Hope & Foster Dreams" t-shirt (provided by Hillsdale and Branch County branches of MDHHS) to provide awareness around the great need for foster care. We are now challenging the staff of Reading High School to "Raise Hope & Foster Dreams"!

Thanks to Mr. Dice and his Woodworking class, WES families made their own "My Little Library" bookshelves Thursday evening. With all the pieces already cut and grooved, families were able to put the shelves together in record time - less than an hour. To make the bookshelves their own, students were then given paint and brush and their choice of age appropriate books to take home. "Watching the families work together was the highlight of the night." - Linda Quiggle, JHS and One Comet Librarian.
Also on hand for the night were WES and One Comet Librarian, Mrs. Schneider and helpers, Bryanna Blossom, Brodie Henson, Brad Wright. Holland Thompson and Sierra Winter also helped set up.
This was the first exclusively "One Comet" Library program. Johnathan Rands's visits and writing workshop on March 30 & 31st and the following events at the Jonesville District Library are also part of One Comet's programming for "March is Reading Month":
Family Story Time on Financial Wellness with children's activities on April 20 at 5 PM
LEGO Build on March 24 at 3:30 PM
Dr. Seuss party on March 29 at 4 PM
As part of the reading and study of the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Mrs. Stanton's English 9 classes completed maps of Maycomb, Alabama. These maps included specific details of the plot.

ATHLETIC UPDATE #2
Tyler Milks pinned his opponent with four seconds left. As a result, he will continue to wrestle at the State tournament.
The Jonesville Girls' Bowling team beat Hanover-Horton (746-651) to move on to semifinals.
ATHLETIC UPDATE
Two of our Jonesville Comet wrestlers are competing at the MHSAA Individual State tournament. Derek Ballinger won first round match. Tyler Milks lost his first round match and will wrestle again to stay in competition.
The Jonesville Girls' Bowling is seeded second moving into quarterfinals. They are now in bracket play against Hanover-Horton.
March is Youth Art Month and there is quite a bit to share from the art room. We have artists representing Jonesville throughout the state of Michigan.
"Class Act", featuring artwork by kindergarten through high school artists, is being held at the Battle Creek Art Center. Five artists from JHS will be represented at this exhibition from March 4th until March25th; there will be an artist reception on Sunday, March 19th, from 2-4pm. Artwork from Daniel Stewart, Esther Yokell, Audrey Blackham, Hallie James, and Elle Lamothe will be displayed.
Pen Perspective drawing "Kramer Co." by artist, Ava Kramer 10th grade has been awarded Michigan Art Education Association's Excellence in Art and will be displayed in the Top 100 of the 2023 MAEA Statewide Secondary Level Art Show, The Top 18 of the 2023 MAEA Statewide Secondary Level Art Show, and the Governor Traveling Show which tours the state of Michigan May 2023-May 2024.
