JCS gives thanks to all who have made the greatest sacrifice to our nation. On a day filled with family and friends, please take a moment to remember those who are no longer able to.

Memorial Day
Here at Williams Elementary, this year Earth Day was extra special! S.T.E.M. students from kindergarten through 5th grade were immersed in the importance of protecting our planet and taking action. The younger grades learned about recycling and conserving our natural resources, pollination, planting flowers in the Children’s Garden, and raising and releasing Painted Lady butterflies. Our little scientists witnessed the new butterflies uncurl their long tongues, or proboscis, and drink the nectar from the flowers they had planted themselves! (Now that’s hands-on, minds-on learning!) A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Warner for coordinating all of these activities for our students.

Comet community! I wanted to update you on the bond progress. We finalized the scope of the bond on Tuesday. We had to have 75% or higher agreement for a project to be approved and were able to have 83% agreement with our final vote. We will present the bond proposal to the board at our June 12th study session which will be at the Jonesville Middle School library at 6:00. I hope you are able to make it out to see what is included. There are a lot of needed projects being addressed and needed updates including safe and secure entryways. I am still taking questions for my "Lessons with Les" series that we are going to do. This is a time for Les Hutchinson and myself to answer community questions with a video series. Here is the link to post YOUR question: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FG5TYDK

Here at Williams Elementary, this year Earth Day was extra special! S.T.E.M. students from kindergarten through 5th grade were immersed in the importance of protecting our planet and taking action. Older students researched different types of pollution, helped clean up the grounds of our own school district, recycled paper products, and created beautiful and informative Earth Day Posters. These posters decorated the halls and acted as reminders how everyone can save, protect, and take care of our Earth. Acknowledged students in 4th grade were: Beatty’s class – Madison Milks Bolz-Sweebe’s class – Eva Walton and Kylee Martin DeGuise’s class – Molly Sigler Hardway’s class – Hazlee Shepherd **Special Recognition – Blake Taipalus Acknowledged students in 5th grade were: Anderson’s class – Mason Daglow and Maycee Roberts Roger’s class - Hailey Dooley Roger’s class – Trenton Barnett and Logan Boyd Roger’s class – Dakota Oakes VanMeter’s class – Kelsey Stephens, Rhylee McNair and Alaina Wert ** Special Recognition – Isaac Rogers, James Sponseller, and Mason Dunlap and Madison Barber and Brandalyn Hubbard

Last night, the City of Jonesville awarded citizen of the year to three former Jonesville School alum: Dr. Leising, former teacher and current volunteer at WES, and Hayden James and Carson Laney who are 2020 graduates. Their stories of gratitude and service was a model of what the award is about. Though I did not have the pleasure of knowing the two graduates, it was clear the reason they were awarded youth citizens of the year. Congratulations and Go Comets!

We have been overwhelmed with shed requests!! The JCS community is awesome!! Thanks to so many of you who have expressed interest in supporting our Trades classes. At this time we have more than 20 requests for sheds!! I wish we had the time to build them all. Hopefully, you will have more opportunities to support our program. Our students are excited to build stuff. Next year we hope to have more students who want to do that. But at this time we are at our limit (and then some). The pricing comes down to materials and discussions with the client on what they feels is a fair price. Thanks! Go Comets!
